After I wrote my memoir, "349 Days", about my time in the U.S. Army, people asked when I was going to write another book. My answer was always, "Never!" Well...that statement shows how little I know about the future. I smile as I write that. For here I am, writing a brief description about my second book. While in Vietnam, I served in Bravo Company, 4th Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment in the 11th Light Infantry Brigade of the Americal Division (23rd Infantry) from late 1970 until June of 1971. At that time, I was not aware of the history of Bravo Company, also known as "Big Bad Bravo". It wasn't until I began attending company reunions and meeting some of the men who had gone before me, did I get the 'stirring' to write Bravo's story...from the perspective of the men who filled the Company's ranks from 1967 until June of 1971. This book, "In The Shadow Of Heroes", tells that story...from the forming at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii to the final stand down. I write of the Grunt's Life...the struggles, the emotions, the battles, and the sacrifices. My focus herein is on the grunts, and especially the heroes who never returned home. I hope you will join me in honoring them as you read their story.

Everyone has a story to tell. 349 Days is my story. It's not my whole story, but it is a part of my story from a very significant time in my life. I take you from being drafted into the Army as a young husband with a child on the way in 1970, through my training, then the jungles and rice paddies of Vietnam, all the way to the 21st Century and the aftereffects of that year. 349 Days tells you about these experiences, and about the fears, loneliness, and joys that went with them.
